Sunday, May 31 2015 is National Macaroon Day, so in honor of this sweet holiday we’re sharing four delicious ways to upgrade a pre-made macaroon. The macaroon – not to be confused with the French Macaron of the same pronunciation – is a small cake-like dessert usually made of ground almonds.
Dip in chocolate. Melt your favorite kind of chocolate in a microwave or on a stovetop (careful not to burn), and dip your macaroons in for a decadent twist! Place on cookie sheet, let cool and devour!
Make a Sandwich. If you’re feeling extra indulgent, grab two macaroons, smear some sweet sauce or cream on the bottom of one and top with the other macaroon to create a macaroon-sandwich!
Drizzle with caramel or jam. Grab a macaroon and lightly drizzle with your favorite topping – be it caramel, jam, or sundae topping.
Serve “a la mode.” Throw your macaroon in the microwave for a few seconds, then serve on top of an ice cold bowl of ice cream.
