Father's Day, Gift Baskets

When you’re too old to pass off a hand drawn card as a Father’s Day gift, with Alex

Hello, 1800Baskets blog readers!

I hope none of you have shied away during our little hiatus (not my fault, I promise, I’m new!), because we definitely have a lot of great, interesting topics and give-a-ways to get to this summer. Before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming, I would like to introduce myself as someone other than an anonymous face who happens to blog about gift baskets. My name is Alex and I am a recent college grad interning at 1800Baskets.com and will be your new Summer Guest blogger.

To tell you the truth, I don’t really know too much about gift baskets, so this will be a huge learning process for me. Join me on this exciting adventure and read about my new discoveries, curiosities and even (willingly) help me out with what you want to know about as well. Now if I don’t know about gift baskets, then why work for 1800Baskets you ask? Well dear readers, let me explain. After a few job fairs where no one wanted to look at me unless I had a business degree, I found a booth that lured me in because I was convinced I would get to eat the contents of the gift basket if I talked to them, and if there is one fool-proof way to attract a college student, it’s offering free stuff. After talking to the nicest human resource representative, she told me that they keep getting people with business resumes but were actually looking for someone with a creative writing background (in your face other job fairs!). I was on board to learn about anything they asked of me, starting with that tasty looking gift basket at the booth, which I eventually won in a raffle later that day (Yeah me!).

After several weeks of emails, a couple of interviews, getting lost driving to the building, and a lot of research, I finally get to start my blog assignment of taking a close look at Father’s Day gift baskets. Being a procrastinating shopper myself, I’m always looking for a gift with good value and one that will convince my dad that my gift was planned and not a last minute grab (something tells me he’s not a clearance bin Hawaiian shirt kind of guy).

Happy Father’s Day Classic BBQ Gift Set

Happy Father’s Day Classic BBQ Gift Set

There is this nifty looking gift box that looks like a grill called the Happy Father’s Day Classic BBQ Gift Set (gift number 94679) for $59.99, complete with BBQ rubs, chips, dips, salami and little grilling items like a mitt and basting brush. Not only does it look creative, but the BBQ rubs are insanely delicious. After an especially convincing show on BBQ and ribs, I’ve just about eaten twice my body weight in BBQ pork and rib tips the last few weeks, and the Jim Beam® Spicy Bourbon BBQ rub is one item to make your taste buds soar. Definitely a lot more original than the quick trip to the Walgreens generic candy, chocolates and card aisles I was planning on making, and filled with things I know my dad would actually use. Neither of my parents will have their own 30-minute show on the Food Network, but of the 3 meals my dad knows how to make, I would say anything that contributes to the grill definitely fits his area of expertise.

Happy Father’s Day Handyman’s Snack Gift Set

Maybe your father doesn’t go anywhere near food and prefers to convince people one of his hands is actually a Phillips screwdriver, in which case I say, “watch out for those high fives!” Also, there is another original looking gift basket made to look like a toolbox, called the Happy Father’s Day Handyman’s Snack Gift Set (gift number 94675) for $39.99. Apparently manly gift baskets always include whole salami, so it must be true that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Also in tow are some cheeses, chili mix, and other savory options. Personally, I am a big fan of the Sonoma Jack’s® Pepper Jack cheese, especially with crackers and a slice of salami… Sorry, I’m back now.

Summer’s Best Mira Luna® Wine Picnic Gift Basket

Perhaps you’re looking for a more classic or traditional gourmet gift basket for Father’s Day. I guarantee that the Summer’s Best Mira Luna® Wine Picnic Gift Basket (gift number 94915) for $49.99 will show your dad the very thoughtful and well put-together person you turned out to be (and any gift involving wine, vanilla and chocolate cookies, strawberry fruit jam, and toffee candy is bound to make you the favorite). The gift basket is a handcrafted, natural willow picnic basket that can easily get more use out of it for summer picnics or decoration.

These are just a few options I found interesting. Back at our site there are tons of great Father’s Day gift baskets to choose from with scrumptious snacks, a few large golf bag and wine baskets, and many more that I don’t have the space to write about.

If you made it through this first post, hooray! This will be the start of a beautiful friendship. If you only skipped through to see if we’re giving away something, I guess I can’t blame you (yet), however there are no contests this post.

Stay tuned, coming up next week I’ll be featuring an interview with Basia, our in-house gift basket designer and gearing up for a gourmet give-away. Don’t miss it! Also, please feel free to share or send me any suggestions, stories, and ideas you would like to see featured on the blog.

While I still have you here, in a paragraph or two below, whether it’s manning the grill or fixing a spill, let us know what’s your dad’s favorite way to celebrate his special day?

Alex has left the building!
